As Uganda makes faster and longer strides towards a middle-income economy, many new cities are coming up, opening new, better and less competitive business avenues to smart thinkers.

Many Ugandans have come to embrace the convenience of the digital revolution, which has seen most educated and elite citizens migrate from analogue to smart phones and a whopping 16 million internet users.

Last month, cabinet approved the creation of six new cities, among which are Gulu in the North, Jinja in the East and Fort Portal in the West, and another new set of cities are pending operationalization effective 2021/2022 financial year.

Among the new batch of cities-to-be is Lira, the central business hub of Lango sub-region. Preparations are in high gear in various sectors, ranging from those aspiring for political positions in the new city, to those planning to grab the earliest investment opportunities. The latter is already taking the development scene by storm, with Ambrotech, a local digital firm ushering in the first city-style online market named “Duka Waa”.

Duka Waa is a typical online store that enables a customer to browse the firm’s range of products and services, various photos or images of the products along with information about the product specification, features and prices. It is part of the many services under AMBROTECH Uganda, which is the overall company with over 15 services.

Ambrose Agena, the CEO and brain behind Ambrotech says: “The primary service offered by DUKA WAA is shopping only. We provide the various options to shop online through which you can shop anything, you can shop for clothes, electronics, and furniture and so on.”

As it is with the many elite online shopping companies, Ambrotech has a flexible range of payment modes at the convenience of their customers. “Payment mode is totally depending upon you, whether you want to pay by mobile money or cash on delivery for you can choose any payment mode. You give the amount for the product when it is delivered at your home, is the cash on delivery,” says Agena.

In establishing the first ever online business dynasty in the northern region, Ambrotech seeks to capitalize on the most important tenets of online marketing: time, convenience, variety, and discount and product detail.

In Uganda, Jumia and Kikuu are arguably the most common, widespread online markets yet to be wrestled from the apex of online marketing, having established themselves as a reliable online shopping center, with many agents and delivery/pickup centers across the country.

With Lira soon becoming a city, Ambrotech stands the chance, establishing itself as a favourite, reliable online market with excellent business strategies or contend with fighting for dominance with other upcoming online market investors.
